Turkish Meat and Milk Board (ESK) has been again granted the permission to import beef from the EU and Bosnia Herzegovina due to continuously rising prices for years. Chinese pork farmers enjoy the recent high prices

USDA report in their Chinese GAIN report http://goo.gl/3BSrrT on oilseeds that recent very high pork prices have seen farmer returns surge ahead.
"Pork prices and the price ratio between grain and hog hit a record high in mid-April and then climbed higher to11.2:1 in mid-May. According to an independent industry source, this contributed to historical profit margins for swine farmers which range from RMB1,000 ($154) to 1,500 ($230)/head. Farmers are actively increasing swine inventory, up 0.6 percent in April from the previous month and sow inventory up 0.3 percent. For instance, in Sichuan Province despite the high price for piglets, total swine inventory increased by 2.3 percent by the end of April over the previous month. Most officials and industry leaders believe the current high pork price/profit is compensation to the sector which experienced heavy losses in the past few years. The growing trend in the swine sector is expected to continue for the rest of 2016 as the current sow inventory is still below the level of the past five years." source: USDA Oilseeds and Products Update 5/31/2016 Number: CH16035

Brazil meat exports increase in volume but prices fall

The Brazilian Association of meat processors referred to falling prices in their June 2, release.

Brazil association release

Meat exports in natura (uncooked fresh, frozen meats) advanced in volume and revenues in May this year compared to the same period last year. Ministry of Industry data, (MDIC), released on Wednesday, June 1, reveal that despite these increases, the average price of all proteins had decline year on year, due to the fall in international prices . Compared to April, chicken meat is a negative exception, with a reduction in both volume and in revenues. Exports of beef in natura totaled 101,000 tonnes, 19.1% higher than recorded in May 2015 (84 800 t) and 16.6% higher than the 86,600 tons sold in April. Foot and mouth disease preparedness Australia

The final report from Exercise Odysseus has been released today, providing a positive assessment of Australia’s most significant foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) response exercise.

http://www.agriculture.gov.au/about/media-centre/media-releases/boosting-aus-fmd-preparedness

“FMD is the most significant disease threat to our livestock industries and we are very fortunate to be free from it,” Ms O’Connell said.

“It was estimated that a medium to large outbreak of FMD in Australia could cost the Australian economy more than AUD$50 billion over ten years.

“Australia already has well-established biosecurity systems that safeguard our industry and environment from diseases like FMD, but these systems are backed by continual improvement and the best-available evidence.

“As the final report highlights, Exercise Odysseus has supported industry and government to be better prepared to successfully implement and manage a national livestock standstill, which is a key part of our strategy to eradicate FMD, if there was an incursion.

“There is also now an increased awareness among potentially affected stakeholders of the importance, roles and potential impacts of a national livestock standstill and an outbreak of FMD.
